With today’s technologies it can be hard to get disconnected sometimes. The multitude of social media sites, news feeds and constant contact available makes it easy to get noticed, put up your business and essentially immerse yourself into the world of social media marketing. This is a great thing and should be embraced, but, it’s not the only thing. This is why I’m writing this post.
Sometimes it’s important to take a step back and do things the old fashioned way. Shake some hands, make eye contact (not with your phone), and converse with like minded individuals in more depth than memes or a few words. This can help build your network and get new clients that you have already built up trust with. Meeting someone in person is likely to leave a longer lasting impact.
It’s also not a bad idea to pick up the phone and give someone or a client a call rather than always relying on e-mail or text. In this day where phone calls are a thing of the past so to say, it’s nice to know that someone for sure got the message, memo, answer to their question rather than wondering if it was lost in transmission.
Here are a few things that help me peel away from the screen when I need a change of scenery.
- Attend networking events and conferences of your main interests or business direction
- Try going out and meeting business owners or potential clients by visiting various areas of the city or target business area
- Take part in group activities, you never know who you might meet
- Try working or reading in a social setting (if you can)
Many of us are social and already do this but sometimes it’s nice to get a reminder to look away from the screen and change the setting to get that fresh inspiration.
